Schweiss Doors Introduces Super Reinforced Doors for Agricultural Grain Storage Buildings

Schweiss Doors recently introduced the first of a new line of doors built and designed specifically for grain / corn storage. Why use a regular bunker wall when a moving hydraulic door can do the same job and save you time, space and add security to your
building?

A building that has a capacity to store nearly one million bushels of corn or grain has to have reinforced bunker wall doors to contain it. When a livestock producer called on Schweiss Doors to have two reinforced doors placed on each end his new 120' x 200' feed storage building Schweiss Doors engineers came up with a design to build and install a 15' 6" x 15' hydraulic door on each end.

The large building has 16' concrete walls. Bunker walls are the usual solution to containment of grain in horizontal flat storage. But big concrete bunkers take up space, and aren't always easily moved. A strong hydraulic door doesn’t take up space and is easily opened.

With thousands of dollars worth of crops, grain or feed at stake Schweiss hydraulic grain storage doors are the perfect solution to keep your product safe and keep the weather out. To support the forces of grain against this door takes a supper strong design, the Schweiss design does just that and will provide containment for grain or other products without any loss of space.

Each Schweiss Hydraulic Grain Storage Door on this 120’ x 200’ building featured a 54" x 44" sliding door to allow grain to pour out for augering. Two 15’6” x 15’ hydraulic doors were reinforced with larger cylinders, beefed up pumps and steel pegs drop into the concrete footing to ensure zero leakage.

were reinforced with larger cylinders, beefed up pumps and steel pegs drop into the
concrete footing to ensure zero leakage.

The Schweiss hydraulic grain storage doors for this project were constructed with 3/4- inch steel welded into a framework of 8-inch beams, each door weighed 2,500 lbs. Oversize' pistons were needed to lift such a heavy door so Schweiss engineers sized both the pistons and hydraulic pumps larger.

To make certain there would be zero grain leakage with several thousand pounds of shelling corn piled against the doors, four 6-inch long steel pegs drop into the concrete footing at the bottom edge plus two steel pegs on each edge lock into the steel I-beam framework of each door.

Each custom-made hydraulic door also had a 54" wide x 44" tall steel slider which lets grain pour out for augering into the feeding trucks. Once enough grain has been emptied out, the big hydraulic doors can then be safely opened and a front-end loader goes to work to load directly onto feeding wagons.

No matter what size building you have, Schweiss Doors can custom-make a hydraulic or bifold liftstrap door to fit your needs. These grain storage doors are a prime example of what Schweiss Doors can do to fill special agricultural needs.
