Liebherr Mining Equipment Honored at the 2013 Saba Global Summit
On March 13, Liebherr Mining Equipment was one of a group of select companies to receive Customer and Partner Excellence Awards at the Saba Global Summit. The annual program honors organizations that have demonstrated outstanding achievement in significant business improvement or humanitarian outcomes. Among the other companies acknowledged were E*TRADE Financial Corporate Services, Inc., The Home Depot, and IBM for awards recognizing exceptional innovation, collaboration, and engagement.
In 2009, Liebherr Mining selected Saba’s Learning Management System to initiate an eLearning strategy to handle the global nature and diversity of their training needs. Initially implemented at the Liebherr Mining Equipment facilities in Newport News, VA (USA) to provide technical training to their product-support field service technicians and those enrolled in an apprentice training program, this system was then employed at the Liebherr Mining Equipment factory in Colmar, France. This training system continues to expand to Liebherr Mining affiliates worldwide.
The Transformative Learning Award acknowledges a company’s effectiveness in transforming their organization through integrating a learning management system into their current operations. Liebherr Mining received this award for its successful transition from predominantly hands-on technical and operational training to a blended approach that incorporates online, classroom, on-site, and factory-specific sessions. This approach makes the most effective use of instructors’ resources and increases employee knowledge, both of which maximize the customer’s training dollar. “This has been a real resource-leveling strategy for Liebherr,” comments Clint Richards, Technical Training Manager for Liebherr Mining Equipment Newport News Co. “By using one common system throughout Liebherr Mining, the factories and affiliates are able to manage certifications easily and quickly. The success of this blended training system can be measured by its growth, acceptance, and adoption by other countries and affiliates.”
