Broderson Delivers 10,000th Crane

This month, Broderson Mfg. Corp., Lenexa, Kan., celebrated the delivery of its 10,000th unit since the company was established in 1973. The IC-80, an 18,000-pound capacity industrial crane, has represented the core of Broderson’s product line for 30 years. Popular in rental fleets, the 10,000th unit was ordered by Scott Equipment Co., Monroe, La. This milestone unit is part of a multi-crane purchase the rental company recently made of more than 40 machines, including IC-80s and IC-200s, which will be delivered through the first quarter of 2013.

With 21 locations in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas, Scott Equipment has had a long relationship with Broderson as a dealer for its products since the early 1970s. “We primarily serve the petrochemical industry and contractors along the Gulf Coast,” said Curley Bordelon, executive vice president for Scott Equipment. “We find the Broderson carry-decks to be dependable and functional,” he said.

The IC-80 has a pick-and-carry capacity of up to 11,700 pounds. Featuring four-wheel steer, with four-wheel drive as option, the crane can be powered by diesel or dual fuel.

During an open house, Broderson also displayed a prototype of a diesel-powered IC-400, a 25-ton industrial crane. The IC-400 features electro-hydraulic dual joystick control—a first for the manufacturer. Available as a standard feature, it may be made available as an option on other models in the company’s product line depending on customer feedback, explained Jim Miller, district manager. Another interesting feature of the IC-400 is an optional winch camera and outrigger extension camera. Regular production of the IC-400 is expected to begin by the end of 2012.

In other news, Broderson will display its first CE-certified unit at Vertikal Days, held June 27-28 in the U.K. The IC-250, an 18-ton industrial crane, was ordered by Cranes UK, Broderson’s local dealer. Accordingly, Broderson is now in the process of CE-certifying all its models.
