Hitachi EH5000AC-3 Haul Trucks
Built to deliver huge efficiency
The EH5000AC-3 is Hitachi’s newest and largest rigid frame hauler. It combines our time-proven hauler technology with our brand new, high-efficiency Advanced IGBT AC-Drive system. It’s one of the most technologically advanced mining trucks on the market, and it helps raise profits by lowering fuel and maintenance costs. It doesn’t just get work done – it gets more work done.
- New Advanced Hitachi AC-drive system outperforms previous and competitive systems through its slip and slide control systems, pitch control system and skid control system.
- The Cummins QSKTTA60-CE diesel engine generates 2,850hp (2,125kW) at 1,900 rpm and meets EPA Tier 2 emission requirements.
- An all-hydraulic actuated braking system provides precise braking control and quick system responses.
- A new Hitachi system monitor provides display information and diagnostics of all onboard systems and controls.
Advanced AC-drive system
The EH5000AC-3 features Hitachi’s state-of-the-art Advanced AC Drive System using Hitachi’s own IGBT controller, alternator and wheel motors. Hitachi has been in the electrical drive system business for years – first with GTO, now with IGBT. In fact, the technology has successfully been used on bullet trains, locomotives, monorails and commuter electric cars around the world. The result is an AC-powered truck that outperforms previous and competitive systems through its simplicity, improved efficiency and enhanced dependability.
The enhanced Slip/Slide control feature of the Advanced Hitachi AC Drive System, acts as an Active Traction Control and Anti-Lock Brake System in slippery conditions. The enhancement of the Slip/Slide Control System on the EH5000AC-3 Advance Hitachi Drive System is through the utilization of various new sensors on the front wheels, suspension and steering systems.
The Pitch control feature of the Advanced Hitachi AC Drive System, acts as a ride control system reducing the bouncing/rebounding effect on the truck as it hits bumps or uneven ground on the haul road. As the truck comes to a stop the rebounding or rocking effect due to the change in inertia of the truck is also reduced. The reduction in the bouncing/rebounding effect not only provides the operator with a more comfortable ride in the truck, but it also reduces stress on the truck frame caused when the truck pitches back and forth during operation and sudden stops.
Skid slide control
The Skid Slide control feature of the Advanced Hitachi AC Drive System, assists the operator in slippery road conditions when cornering in turns. By utilizing changes in the wheel motor torque from left to right side during cornering, the drive system assists the operator turn the truck and keep it on the proper track around the corner, preventing the truck from trying push straight through the corner instead of turning.
Easy access to major components
The fully-fabricated box-section main rails feature section height that is tapered from rear to front. This produces a narrower area at the rear to support the load and a wider area at the front to provide overall stability. One-piece top and bottom flanges eliminate cross-member tie-in joints and provide a large exposed center area for access to major components. The large radii at frame junctions are blended and ground stress concentrations are minimized.
The redesigned frame integrates Hitachi’s experience in building truck and large mining excavator frames with improved design and manufacturing processes. The bolt-on high-arch cross member, combined with new rear axle housing and nose cone designs will provide the EH5000AC-3 with a sturdy frame as the backbone of this workhorse on your mine site.
A new Hitachi system monitor gives you the ability to see information and diagnostics of all onboard systems and controls, including the engine and Hitachi AC drive. This will help you reduce downtime through faster and more reliable troubleshooting and analysis.
The Hitachi horizontal stiffener design minimizes stress concentrations by dissipating load shocks over the entire body length. In addition, closely spaced stiffeners provide additional protection by minimizing distances between unsupported areas.
HI-TECH ROPS/FOPS cab
The new HI-TECH ROPS/FOPS cab has been newly equipped with a Hitachi controller and a large centrally mounted, color Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) as used in Hitachi large sized excavators. Double wall construction of 11 gauge inner and outer steel panels produces a more structurally sound cab. A three point rubber isolation-mount arrangement minimizes vibration to the operator compartment.
Load weighing system
The hauler’s payload-monitoring system is fully integrated to the monitoring system on the truck (and therefore your Mine Management System*) for prompt reporting of tons moved, cycle times, cycle count and distance.
*Requires optional equipment.
The fast-filling system, provided standard on the left side of the radiator, gives you direct access at the ground level for fast feeding of lubricants, grease, hydraulic oil and engine oil. Couplers are optional.
